Rose City Livestream began with a simple idea: Michael and Irish wanted to livestream their wedding so that Irish's family in the Philippines could be part of their special day.
Michael and Irish first met in the Philippines, where Irish is from. After their meeting, Irish decided to visit Michael in the United States. What began as a two-week vacation ended with them getting married in the heart of Mt. Tabor Park in Portland, Oregon. Planning a wedding in the middle of a forest with no electricity, just 30 days to prepare, and a long list of unique challenges was no small feat:
How do we get family and friends to join us on such short notice?
Surprisingly, all five of Michael’s siblings and his parents were able to fly in from the Midwest to attend. Irish’s best friend traveled from Malaysia, and 80 other guests RSVP’d—many of whom flew in from different states. How can we include Irish’s family, who are on the other side of the world?
This is where the idea for Rose City Livestream was born. With Michael’s background in video production, he quickly realized that live-streaming the wedding would allow Irish's family in the Philippines to join the celebration. After some research and planning, Michael rented high-quality equipment and hired a camera operator. For internet, we used a high-performance mobile hotspot, which worked flawlessly for the six-hour stream. Meanwhile, Irish’s family gathered at a hotel in Cebu, waking up at 6 a.m. local time to watch the wedding live. We even set up a video conference, projecting them on a large TV mounted on a tree, so they could be there with us virtually. How do we pull off a wedding without basic amenities like power, sound systems, or even running water?
Despite the challenges, we made it work. Our park permit didn’t allow generators, so we powered everything using batteries. We brought in a dance floor and partied until the last possible moment. A kind neighbor generously volunteered his sister to prepare all the food for our guests. With careful planning and some improvisation, we were able to tackle every detail along the way.
In 2024, Michael and Irish decided it was time to share the joy of livestreaming events. After weeks of research, purchasing equipment, and testing gear (along with a mountain of Amazon packages), we're excited to offer professional livestream services to the Portland Metro area. We can’t wait to be part of your event and help bring your celebrations to life!
